What are the latest kitchen flooring trends?

Kitchen flooring trends are a moving target. The painted floors of “yesterday” have given way to the natural look. Trends in kitchen flooring also reflect the region the house is in, be the flooring a Saltillo tile, glass tile, exotic hardwood, or parquet. Kitchen flooring choices reflect your budget, tastes, and needs, as well as the best trends.

Environmentally friendly flooring is becoming more the rage because it looks good, is durable, and doesn’t harm the environment in its growth and production. Understandably, a lot of people are going to argue that such flooring is the need of the hour, but can we blame someone who falls in love with the color and design of a polyurethane or ceramic tile flooring? Therefore, the kitchen flooring trends are always a balance between these two.

When choosing flooring for your kitchen then you may want to check into the latest kitchen flooring trends. However, make sure that when you choose flooring based on a trend that it is flooring that you love. Choosing kitchen flooring is very important because in most homes, the kitchen is the room that sees the most traffic and it is where most families spend most of their time. That is why it is so important to choose flooring that is durable, easy to clean, and is functional for your family.

Don’t just blindly follow the kitchen flooring trends

Many people make the mistake of blindly adapting the latest flooring trends without considering whether they would like it personally or would it be a good fit to their kitchen. More than keeping up with the latest trend, your priority should be in choosing one that will reflect your personality to the fullest.

New kitchen floors can instantly update your kitchen making it feel brighter and new. Kitchen flooring can be found to fit any budget and design style. Many of the kitchen flooring choices that are available can even be self-installed to save money. That is why it is such a great and inexpensive way to make your kitchens feel and look new.

Natural kitchen flooring choices are the flooring trends right now. This includes hardwoods and stone options and while both of these options can be quite expensive, you can opt for laminate flooring that looks like hardwood or stone flooring for a fraction of the cost. Environmentally friendly flooring like bamboo flooring and linoleum are also very trendy. Most of the flooring trends tend toward flooring that is easy to care for and maintain over flooring that needs a lot of care.

For kitchens that have a sitting area incorporated into the space, people are using natural fiber carpets and rugs on top of their natural product flooring for a different look. Natural fiber carpeting and area rugs can be easy to clean, look good, are made of sustainable materials, and tie in nicely with natural flooring products.

Many newer homes have an open floor plan which makes the choice of flooring that much more important. Many times the same flooring that is in the rest of the home runs through the kitchen as well, so it is important to have flooring that meets the demands of a busy family’s traffic and is easy to clean and take care of. Having the same flooring throughout the home gives the entire home a feeling warmth and openness. In that case, you not only have to consider the kitchen flooring trends but the general flooring trends as well. Because you don’t want to end up having a kitchen floor that simply doesn’t match with the flooring in other parts of the house. You can always seek the help of a professional interior decorator if your budget allows it.

Finding the latest kitchen flooring trends

Evaluating the trends in kitchen flooring will help to lead you in the direction that you want to go in to update your kitchen. Although looking at the trends is helpful, research other options too. You may find a kitchen flooring that may not be trendy, but it makes you happy and will look great in your kitchen too. Once you have your choices narrowed down, then visit a flooring or home improvement store to check them out in person. Step on the floor samples you are considering to see how they feel under your feet, and keep in mind that you will be standing on them quite a bit so you need to like the feel. You can also make use of the web for a wide array of options, trends and designs.

Keep in mind that trends change frequently. If you buy your kitchen flooring just because it is the latest trend and not because you love it, then you may be stuck with flooring that you do not like for a long time. Flooring is an investment, so make sure that you are completely happy and satisfied with your choice. Buy new kitchen floors that you like the look of and the feel of and you won’t go wrong.

  1. I personally am against vinyl flooring anywhere. I’m against vinyl because it relies on petroleum supplies (and I vote for decreasing our dependence on petroleum) and it off-gases (which is bad for your health, as well as the health of any living creature in the room/house).
But as far as it being a durable surface in the kitchen and bath — it works well.
Go with a linoleum product for the same look but a more environmentally friendly consequence.
