Natural Cork

Natural Cork is a flooring company, but this article is not about the company. I personally have had major problems with the company and cork products, though I hear things might have gotten better, so want to address the concept of natural cork, the product instead.

Cork is a great flooring product to work with, and it can be used for a wider range of applications than just floor. Consider it for walls, ceilings, and showers. It insulates and buffers sound. It’s great!

Floors are more than just functional. They offer you the opportunity to make them into an integral part of your room. A great choice for your floor and one of the best, that many homeowners do not even consider is natural tile cork flooring.

It is a natural material that does not dictate that any trees be cut down or any damage done to the tree that may harm it. Natural cork flooring, as opposed to synthetic cork, is a wonderful “green” or environmentally friendly choice for your floors that is not just functional, but beautiful as well.

How is natural cork harvested? Cork is harvested from the bark of trees that are found mainly in Portugal and other Mediterranean countries. Due to the fact that it is just the bark of the trees, the tree is still alive and the bark regenerates within a time period of nine years or less. It is not an unusual thing to find a tree that is over a hundred years old still producing cork. This is very environmentally friendly option for flooring, simply because it is sustainable and does not cause death to any tree.

What does natural cork flooring look like? Natural cork flooring comes in a wide variety of colors and designs. It can be the browns that you associate with cork or it can come in a wide variety of different colors. Color is not the only variety that comes with cork, however. They may be lightly veined, almost marblelized, and may even have a slight wood grain appearance. This variety allows homeowners to find the right natural cork flooring for their style and personal preferences.

What are some of the benefits to natural cork flooring? There are quite a few benefits that make natural cork flooring pull ahead of many other types of flooring. One is that it can be used in a wide variety of rooms. Due to the natural moisture resistance of cork, these floors work well in kitchens and in bathrooms, as well as any other room in your home. Another natural benefit of cork is that it is hypoallergenic and is naturally insulating and flame retardant. Bugs, mold, and termites are naturally repelled by cork as well.
